Wintry Wednesday!
We were happy to see the sun shining today and are hoping for warmer weather soon!
Today we started our day with a word scramble and literacy time. Most of the groups are reading novels including: Cheat by Kristin Butcher, The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes, Stone Fox by John Gardiner, Wayside School is Falling Down by Louis Sachar, and Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo.
We had a chance to review some of the interesting story beginnings that we wrote on Monday and looked at opening lines from famous children's books. Then we had time to continue or start a new piece or writing. As we focus on how to hook the reader with interesting beginnings we are gaining a new appreciation for storytellers as artists.
This afternoon we had a chance to explore the Glenbow Museum's Niitsitapiisini website to learn about how the Blackfoot lived with the land. We used what we learned for the G is for Grasslands page in our ABC's of Alberta Before it was Alberta book.
Reminders:
- Book orders due on Monday
- Practice basic multiplication facts
- Teachers Convention next week: Early dismissal Wednesday, No school Thursday & Friday, Family Day on Monday!
